Best Hours Poem by Drew Engman

Best Hours

Rating: 3.0

A thousand reflections pitch dark at midnight
Slivery shadows bright in the moonlight
I just want to see through the veil past the end
But here comes the sun up and rising again

Midday the shadow's right under my feet
On top of the sidewalk that's frying in the heat
But sunset comes early with a shivering chill
I open my windows all up to the sill

And shudder in cold doubt and anger at all
That this season and reason comes out to call
Peace on earth and good will to all women and men
Do we have to always go through all this again?

My second best guess would be that's right, we do
Don't know about me, but I know about you
Our nocturne plays only at sunrise and sunset
And the days haven't shown us their best hours yet.
