Betrayal - Poem by Barry Conway

BETRAYAL

BETRAYAL
THE FINAL ACT,
OF A DESPERATE SOUL,
FOR THOSE,
WHO HAD NO FURTHER TO FALL,
THE CALL,
OF THE ALL, PERVASIVE DARK,
INVADING,
ALL THAT YOU ONCE HELD DEAR,
BANISHED,
TO THE DISTANCE,
IN RESISTANCE,
OF HONOUR.

IN ANYONE'S BEING,
AFTER THAT MOMENT OF INSANITY,
YOU WILL FAIL,
BE LOST
IN THE REGRET OF THE LOST.
EACH SECOND,
THE INVASIVE HAND,
CREEPS IT'S SHADOW,
ACROSS THE SEMI CONSCIOUSNESS,
OF THE FELLED,
GROWING EVER MENACING,
AND UNSTOPPABLE,
TEARING AT THE FLESH,
RIPPING AND CUTTING,
INTO THE BEING,
THAT WAS ONCE THERE.

EMPTY,
ARE THOSE THAT DENY,
THE RIGHT.
LONG IS EACH INSTANT,
LONG IS IT'S REACH.
YOU WEAR BETRAYAL,
THE SCENT,
LAYS UPON YOU,
TO THE GRAVE,
AND BEYOND.
