Beyond Our Hedge Poem by Maureen Pickford

Beyond Our Hedge

Wouldn't you just love to find
Ancient treasure left behind?
In the ground, a glint of gold
Buried there by knights of old.

Wouldn't you just love to hold?
A loving cup. Secrets told
Among etchings hands entwined
Of past lovers. Hearts combined.

Wouldn't you just love to touch
A stone studded Roman brooch?
Once pinned upon the shoulder
Of a strong and brave soldier.

Wouldn't you just love to see
The Hoard hidden carefully
In a farmer's field nearby
Dug up by a local guy?

Well, beyond our hedge you'll find
Land unchanged since ancient times
There's a medieval mound...
Surely treasure to be found!
