Beyond The Horizon Poem by Edith Niemeyer

Beyond The Horizon

[Verse 1]

If I traveled far enough

to where the last light fades...

Would I find
the edge of everything?

Or just...

another yesterday?

Suppose I sailed
beyond the stars,

past everything
we've ever known...

Every step
toward the ending

moves the ending
farther on.

[Pre-Chorus]

Beyond the horizon,

what waits for me?

Another beginning

where an ending
ought to be?

Maybe there isn't
an edge

to this endless
cosmic road.

[Chorus]

Beyond the horizon—

another horizon waits.

Another universe
of light behind,

another wonder
at the gates.

No wall.

No doorway.

No final line.

Only somewhere farther

calling

through the dark
of time.

[Verse 2]

Past newborn stars
and galaxies,

toward creation's
oldest light...

Only ancient
whispered remnants

of an almost
timeless day.

And somewhere
far behind me,

Earth would disappear
from sight.

A tiny home
I once believed

stood somewhere
near the middle

of the night.

[Pre-Chorus]

What if I finally reached

the place
I couldn't see
from home...

and found...

I was standing

in the center

again?

[Chorus]

Beyond the horizon—

another horizon waits.

Another universe
of light behind,

another wonder
at the gates.

No wall.

No doorway.

No final line.

Only somewhere farther

calling

through the dark
of time.

[Bridge]

Maybe every place
we stand

has its own horizon
waiting.

Maybe every ending

is creation

rearranging.

So I'll keep
asking questions

even answers
cannot hold—

If creation
has no ending...

how far

can wonder

go?

[Final Chorus]

Beyond the horizon,

what waits for me?

Another beginning

where an ending
ought to be?

Another horizon
before me.

Another universe
behind.

No wall.

No doorway.

No final line.

And perhaps
the edge of everything

was never
an edge

at all.

[Outro]

If I traveled
far enough

to where
the last light fades...

Would I find
the edge of everything?

Or...

another yesterday?

Beyond the horizon...

I keep wondering.
