Beyond Words Poem by Serena Blackinton

Beyond Words

Despite what you may believe, the problem was never a lack of love,
But the inability to forgive that I never seemed good enough;
Never in my wildest dreams could I have brought myself to hate,
Anything but the fact we lacked the ability to communicate.

In you I saw reflected each and every one of my flaws,
From the disease and tension, down to the root of each cause,
Indeed, you couldn't help but mirror my fascination and wonder,
And arguments we flung about seemed to try to outdo one another.

With you the very best parts of me came bubbling to the surface,
And my life seemed to have meaning and reason and purpose,
Even though ambivalence was my constant companionable nightmare,
The love shone through, just like the sun; it was always going to be there.

Darl, please don't ever, ever believe that I never really cared,
Go beyond the words I failed to express, but were always there:
I loved you then and I'm sure you're aware that I love you still;
I always did, I always do and I always will.
