Bhairava Sthana Poem by Bijay Kant Dubey

Bhairava Sthana

Bhairava sthana,
How is it called locally,
Kala Bhairava's
Shadowy, mythical gigantic presence
Hills, dales, vales, woods and beasts and brutes
Keep it telling,
The peepul trees with the asthi-kalasha hanging,
The shamshana ghats by the river beds,
Frightening shadows lurking,
An imaginary being guarding and looking the livestock
And the hamlet folks,
At the foothills
Or atop them,
Under the shal trees
And people calling him, addressing as
Baba, Bhairava, Kala Bhairava,
Chatia Baba, Chuto Baba,
Budha Sanyasi Baba, Bhairaba Baba,
Burhanath
Aryan or non-Aryan
Whatever be the image, the reflection
But colossal, fierce and frightening,
Shadowy and gigantic
Your shadow,
My shadow,
The shadows which form the images
Of creation and the world,
A sadhu matted and rugged and countrified
And of the aboriginal hilly hamlets
Ever in guard of standing as a watchman.
