Bird Watching Poem by Emma Alberts

Bird Watching

Snow is falling everywhere
As I look out the window without a care

What I'm looking for hides in the trees
Why, they're chickadees!

They chirp all day long
Singing their wonderful song

Finally I spot one
She's sitting with her son

I spot something else
It's the neighbor cat, Chelse

He'll eat a bird!
Well, that's just what I heard

Run little birdies! Shoo shoo!
They sit there chirping, 'Coo, coo! '

I decide it's up to me
Wait... I can't climb a tree!

I figure out I must chase the cat
I throw on my shoes, jacket, and hat

I realize he is very mean
And his senses are very keen

I threw cold mushy snowballs near him
My chances of hitting him were very slim

One broke near his feet
And he ran in retreat! (Or defeat? Tell me in a comment or something.)

Birds were tweeting, every one around
And I was jumping up and down

Outside there was the shining sun
I... HAD... WON! ! ! (Right wording? Doesn't sound quite right to me...)

P.S. I know I have some errors and some things I am not sure on, but I really don't feel like figuring out right now because my back is bruised (stupid brother...) and I'm tired...11 year olds must have their sleep!

(Found on file in Winter 2008, written in Summer 2007 I think, Age 11, Door County, Wisconsin)

3 I luv y'all,
Emma :)
