Birthday! This Day Of Your Birth Poem by Leaking Pen

Birthday! This Day Of Your Birth

Your birth date today meant
More for others than for you:
For those heavy with expectations
And hopes: your mother
Father, family doctor who delivered you,
Grandfather, siblings old enough to know
Their lives would have to start over all over again
And would never be the same,
Your tiny body a symbol of what
Will be, your naked skin
Exposed to fate's first reach
And only a wool blanket
Protecting your from fate's future.
Days seem endless to you
But not for the others
Who are heavy with expectations
Your aging parents
Your future children, friends,
And lovers you haven't met yet,
All circle your circle of invisibility,
As you blow out each breath of life
Into little puffs of smoke
On the first day of your birth
And today's realities
Intertwined with hopes in your tomorrow.
