Bitter - Sweet Poem by George Ahaneku

Bitter - Sweet

Twas’ time for the spring break
All and sundry were down with heart ache
As the wise men say there is disarray
When love and harmony gives way
That a man’s ways defy his spouse
And the broken hearted leaves her house
Both families are dumb and lost in thought
For love is a virtue thus cannot be bought
The woman returns to the place she calls home
Her siblings and parents in sobriety receive their own
Where love peace and joy once abode
Tumult strife and animosity gallantly strode
The blasts fallout as told without
Left these people confused and in doubt
There is now no grace or passion to retreat
For such memories are Bitter Sweet –

As the Sun rises from the Far East
So do sailors grope through darkness and mist
Up and high the steep mountains
Down the valleys springs and fountains
While the battle raged I held my peace
Even when it caused me much dis-ease
While we mused the fire burned
On issues of matrimony we had been warned
Not long ago he was searching and seeking
Today’s storm is high the roofs are leaking
The pudding and soup have gone sour
For tis’ way past the peak hour
His love and passion has grown cold
She was once cherished as nuggets of gold
Hither see how a man’s will ages so fast
But no good thing from God is ever in the past
There is yet hope and power to retreat
For God’s word could turn the Bitter Sweet.
