Black Lives Matter Poem by Aaron Butler

Black Lives Matter

black lives matter, a phrase that causes our people to scatter.

Police chase us down and take our breath and it doesn't seem to bother, don't you think that baby will wonder what happened to their father?

innocent black boy unrightfully killed in the street was it really because of the way they speak.

No matter how respectful we are we're still seen as just a scar.

"maybe if you don't wear your hood and stand up straight" maybe you shouldn't use the color of my skin as a reason to incarcerate.

a 14 year old boy thrown into a river with a cotton gin tied to his neck, by two white men but who was going to keep them in check?
