'Black On Black Crime' Poem by David Cleveland

'Black On Black Crime'

Blood on the ground, blood by his head.
This man stared for a while, then he said.

I knew this boy as he knelt by his side.
He mumbled black-on-black crime as he cried.

He was just a boy who wanted more.
He hooked up with a gang to learn how to score.

His business grew fast, and his name grew too.
His own gang said. We need to kill this fool.

Three days later, the boy was found dead.
Popped once in the back and twice in the head.

The man was crying, so I asked why he was so sad.
Because I was hired to kill him, and I'm his dad.
