Black Swan 1: An Unmasked Masquerade Poem by Wenjun Liu

Black Swan 1: An Unmasked Masquerade

What are you really?
Mere shadows gone astray.
Empty of eyes and pale upon the gaze
Nothing to boast but a doppelganger's face.
Candles and diamonds
With smiles true or false.
You danced your masquerade
In an unmasked face.

Till from the dark wings you hid away
A feather strayed and would not stay.
In the glimmer of night, it twirled round and round.
Sparkling a color
Of desperation profound.

What are you really?
A pretender by her feather betrayed.
