Black Velvet Sheet Of Healing - Poem by Zara Jamshed

She lay wounded by the door
Clinging to all she knows best
Tattered rough and dirty cloth shedding in her feeble grip
Her hands and heart have turned to ice
Water dries upon contact with her desert-like skin
Fever thrives in her body
Time runs in infinite spirals repeating all she wished to forget and erasing all she dreamed to remember
The door creaks open
With glowing emerald eyes she gazes at the intruder
He stands weakly, a sickly boy running from trouble
Slowly, she stumbles to her feet
A crumpled piece of cloth he holds in his feeble grip
It billows out as a black sea of warmth slipping from his hands
Fluttering and catching the light with sparkle of hope
Covering both with a unreal grace
Wrapping the two in tight grasp
Together they fall to floor
Hands clasped tightly around each other
Eyes hazel and emerald stare intently
Her scars heal, her pain is released
His worries escape, his sight clarified
She smiles while he laughs as together they stand
They are no longer week and vulnerable
Black Velvet billows as they exit
