Bleed For You - Poem by Zevanda Borjon

how is it that the heart
became the symbol for love
when love is the gift
that was sent from above

perhaps its that
without the heart we will die
though the question aches inside of me
as i continue to ask why

why not the lungs
that take in each day? ? ?
why not the stomach
that keeps our hunger at bay? ? ?

though my lungs give me life
they couldnt replace the heart
for the heart is a whole
while the lungs are apart

the stomach is selfish
never gives and always takes
the heart is faithful
always there when i ache

the heart cleans our blood
like love cleans our soul
leaving us with happiness
to keep ourselves whole

the herat is love
because to love is to live
and to my one and only
my heart i will give
