Body Parts Poem by Michael P. Johnson

Body Parts

The body needs it’s legs to walk
Needs hands with which to feel
Without a mouth it couldn’t talk
Nor could it eat a meal

The church of Christ is much the same
Her parts are needed too 1Co.12: 12
When void of limbs she too is lame
The same as me and you Eph.5: 30

Apostles are the church’s feet
They wander to and fro
While catching fish and planting wheat
They’ll teach and help to grow

Within the truth Christ’s church is fed Col.1: 24
That none should ever stray
The Lord ordains to serve His bread
A priest to show the way

Anointed has a priest to be
With oil from Jesus’ hand
The church’s head must bend the knee
From where they’ll understand

A prophet’s used where God will tell
Where parts should come and go
What each should do to function well
And does what God will show

Some parts will teach though Christ the Lord
Others will preach the same
Tongues to speak in one accord
And magnify His name

God’s gifts are not to be abused
They’re His and not for fun
They’re for His church and only used
To glorify His Son.
