Bottled Courage Poem by Nick Sym

Bottled Courage

Rating: 5.0

I gently set down the bottle, for it is empty just like the last
I thought there could be a glimpse of the future, but with this
drink there is only the past

So I open another bottle, and look down inside the hole
And all that is seen is the darkness,
like a void surrounding my soul

It used to be my friend, and would listen to my ever sin
But with it comfortably by my side,
life's challenge I could never win

So I realize I must say farewell,
no long lasting emotional good byes
I guess you were never a real friend,
no tears tried to escape from my eyes

You used me, or maybe it was I, who used you,
right now I no longer care
That is why I was given two strong shoulders,
for the truth I now can share

I say so long Mr. Bottle, for you were there when I was in need
But there is no craving for your deceptive support
I finally have been freed.
