Bound For Breathing Poem by Jesu Johnson

Bound For Breathing

Inhale deeply
Exhale true,
as a room full of strangers,
smile, then welcome you.
Then a pair of arms,
that you long for and love,
extend eagerly, giving your first hug.
Then with a smile,
you take your first breath,
inhaling and exhaling,
wondering what else?

And so the bond begins,
between you and oxygen.

As a matter of fact,
he is your first unknown friend.

He follows you everywhere you go.
Here and there,
with you,
and everything you do.

As a matter of fact he's shared,
without a doubtful care,
leaving us bound and breathing,
initially for no reason.
