Boys Don'T Cry Poem by Vijay Jacob

Boys Don'T Cry

there are certain days of our lives when you just seem to try
but things we work for never come and days just stretch on by
so sometimes you just sit back and try and figure out why
but failure to do so makes you sad but ‘boys don’t cry’

you try and figure out by putting word into rhyme
and find your friend in yourself, and say that you’ll make it fine
but when reality comes knocking and asking for pay, you just want to die
and give in. you’re reason to live seems to diminish, but you still want to try
but failure to do so makes you sad but ‘boys don’t cry’

you try cigarette smoke and then dope, Bacardi and coke
and then when you choke and people think you’re a joke
you feel you can break free, give it a shot and then sigh
cos your failure is painful but ‘boys don’t cry’

you don’t want to be a boy, you’d much rather be a girl
wishing your success and good times, you could just unfurl
but then time takes it toll and you’re losing your health
all the drugs and the drinks seems to have robbed at your wealth
you think all is lost and that time will surely tell,
even though you failed hard, that you really tried well
but then the saying rings in your ears, about the boys and no tears
you’re debating about it all, salty tears and the fears, all your friends, and the peers
about the laughs that you’ll get, the snickers and sneers
how you’re failure will repeat when they down a few beers

but they didn’t know what its like learning life on the street
all that they ever experienced was the cream, that was sweet
learn to sweat in the heat, learn to sleep on the tar
learning that you could always run faster when chased by the police car
are they memories to treasure or will they lie like a scar
will they leave you and go and try and make things at par
or will they stay by your side, painfully holding your hand
when you stand in the chapel aisle, will they have the wedding band?

‘boys don’t cry’ you say to yourself, while your head starts to sway
but then you convince yourself that always the boys have their way
and painfully wishing like a dream this would disappear
but then lie there in reality, as you wipe of that tear
