Breaking Down The Walls Poem by Bruce Johnson

Breaking Down The Walls

Breaking down the walls!
He is breaking down the walls
built by hatred and pride—
Thick walls that divide
the peoples and tribes.

Breaking down the walls!
He is breaking down the walls:
Walls of anger and strife
our Lord Jesus Christ
Gave up his own life to break down.

In Christ there is neither woman nor man,
nor slave nor free,
But young and old from each nation and clan
come in unity.
For we all are in need of his grace:
whatever our language or race,
All must enter God's Most Holy Place
by the blood of his Son.
And the Body of Christ our Savior makes us one!

Breaking down the walls!
He is breaking down the walls,
For with power he arose
to defeat mighty foes—
Babylons! Jerichos!

Breaking down the walls!
He is breaking down the walls
built by hatred and pride;
For the blood from the side
of the Lamb crucified breaks them down.

By the blood from the side
of the Lamb crucified,
Let us also decide to break them down!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This was written in conjunction with a sermon on Acts 10. (I was filling in for our pastor, and the topic was pre-determined, but the choice of Scriptures to preach from was my own.)
