Breaking Skin, Drinking Blood Poem by Asha Clarke

Breaking Skin, Drinking Blood

Breaking Skin, Drinking Blood
Chapters of my life echo
With painful familiarity.

*So, I leave my old self behind.*
*And become a shadow renewed.*

What /electric/ these shadows stir,
When I caress their promising lips
With the /hunger/ of my own.
Now.
Now, I wrap my digits in times
Ageing hand-
Letting it guide me to unfamiliar
Paths...

It whispers down my neck
With great intimacy,
And great conviction.
‘my soul is desired
But
By its heart only'.

Therefore,
I give it willingly.
In exchange for passing
Moments,
Of passion,
Of breathe,
Of wonder,
Of death,
And I am yours now
/Time./
Do with me what you will,
For I am trembling apprehension-
/Animated/
by your glistening blood.
I feel my body shuddering
as you fill
your celestial claret
*(With no restoration) *
In my every
Pulsating vein.
