Bridge To History Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Bridge To History

History is never perfect. It always lacks many of the important pieces. That makes it a building without proper foundation and missing bricks and columns.

USA played a mini role in the collapse of USSR. Iran took many steps to play important role in the world; mainly in the neighboring countries with historical and religious ties.

Ay Khanom is on the border of Afghanistan and Tajikistan. Historically it is an important place. Ancient Greeks coins prove that the fort/palace, which was there till not long ago is related to the Alexander’s brutal invasion of the area.

In 1999 when I was there Iran was supporting the Northern and anti-Taliban Government. That is the internationally accepted government.

Iran played the game very wisely. The support went to Tajikistan and from there to Afghanistan.

Crossing the Amu River was not easy so Iran was building a bridge to connect the two countries (Both of them share culture and language with Iran; if united they can become a strong country.)
Taliban ambushed the bridge, cut the cables and the bridge collapsed killing some Iranians.

Sweeping facts like this and the Taliban’s barbarian killing of the Iranians in Mazar under carpet is ignoring the holistic of the history. Absence of such incidents and magnifying what Al-Qaida does against the West damages the history and makes “History is written by the strong” a fact.

History is imperfect and unreliable.

A bridge is needed for connection.
