Broken Break-Up Poem by Diana Euyoque

Broken Break-Up

Everything slows down in that moment,
As if gravity is no longer holding you down
Your world is quiet for that split second that lasts forever,
And your stomach is stuck in an elevator somewhere.
You don’t realize it but you can’t breath,
Theres a stone in your chest.

You sigh,
It hurts.

That brick won’t let you breath.

You’re no longer “out there”
You’re stuck inside four walls;
Your head.

Silently you scream for help,
You look to the left,
You look to the right,
No one hears you.

A thousand people but you are alone.
So much noise, but its so quiet.

You want to run away
You want to hide
You want to go and never stop,
Your legs don’t move.

You gulp for air,
But all you get are tears.
You need to feel,
Is this a nightmare?
No.
Your arms sting,
Theres blood,
This is real.

You become dormant.
You refuse to feel.
No more laughter.
No more smiles.
No more happiness.
Something dark has taken over.
You’re nearly dead inside.
You can barely lift your head.
Theres no light poking through the canopy of sadness.

You’re left to die.
Broken In this Break-up.
