Closure To “first Love” Poem by Diana Euyoque

Closure To “first Love”

Hi My First Love,

We’ve been through a lot,
You and I.

Happiness:

The Man-cave, that blue couch....
Your Room, where we watched movies....
Mango Ice Cream, I said I wouldn’t like it....
College Acceptances, no one thought you could....
Pelham, where we walked and talked....

Adventures:

February 2012, our mini weekend vacation....
Car getting impound....
Macdonald’s, Fenway, Pelham, Fini, Glen Island....
Car Rides....
18 shots, “I’m gonna die! ”....

Sadness:

Rehab, all those letters....
Breaks, those tears....
Mental breakdowns, anxiety and depression....

Dreams:

Our Wedding, purple or red...?
Children, Victoria Rose & Little Betito...?
The House, that big one in Pelham Manor, in the corner...?
Vacation Places, Puerto Vallarta, Cancun, Bora Bora...?
Our Forever After.

These are just a few.
Recently I realized we are no longer together,
We might never be.
You’ve gone your way,
I’ve gone my way.

I needed closure.
And here it is.
Though we’ve caused pain to one another
I will hold no resentment towards you.
You will always have the title of my “First Love.”
I wish you all the love,
And if she loves you half as much as I did,
You are a lucky man.
I mean, I do,
I wish you the best, good luck,
Good Bye, ex love of mine,
my First Love.

Yours Truly,

The girl who loved you very much,
The girl who once saw you as her everything,
The girl who now say’s good bye.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
First Loves are hard to forget, the effect that they have on us are ever lasting. Some are lucky and fate has it written that their 'First Love' becomes their 'only love'...and it's beautiful that two people can be that devoted and passionate to one another. Others, though, such as myself are not as lucky, and sometimes spend nights wondering what went wrong with something so beautiful. It takes a lot to understand and accept that it was something of the past and to move forward. This poem is my closure to that First Love, it is my acceptance that is done and it is over. It is my way to allow myself to emotionally move forward after standing still for so long.

This poem is dedicated, not to my first boyfriend, but to my First Love.
