Broken Glass Poem by dino evans

Broken Glass

Rating: 5.0

How can I go on, with my heart breaking
Why, must I continue to be lost
What did I accomplish, to win this aching
Cold upon my love, there lies a frost

What mistake caused nights, of indecision
When did all my wrong, catch up to me
What holds me, keeps me locked inside this prison
To capture, keep my soul from being free

When do I look in your eyes again
Does freedom thus unlock the door to hell
If you told me that you love me, would I listen
So many years without you, I can't tell

To lose you, would bring down all of my resistance
To win, allows me just a moments peace
To need, breaks hard into your existence
And want, won't cause your pounding heart to cease

I know of what I speak, and so much more
I've been around the block, of empty dreams
Witnessed walking out, and the closing of the door
As time goes by, it weakens me it seems

I've been alone, I've seen the shadowed sun go down
That taught me lessons I can teach you now
The stars can offer no one, the easy way around
And full moonlight shows not the why, or how

Because I've looked to them at times for answers
And sat upon the dew, formed in the grass
The stars that float upon the night, just dancers
And tears fall from my eyes, like broken glass

Tears that cut me, damaged by the volume
Too many to be counted, one by one
And here, inside the darkness of my bedroom
They glisten in the starlight, never gone

I've watched you walk away from me, before
No words from me, would change goodbyes direction
And the sound of the slamming, closing door
Became a piece of pain, in my collection

The pain of knowing I, it was, that caused it
The cost of such an item, much too high
And I must pay the toll, and yet I've lost it
Behind the love we shared once, you and I

This seems almost a nightmare, without dreaming
The only hope I have is, it won't last
I'm tired of the sleeping then the screaming
The tears fall from my eyes, like broken glass
