Broken Ladders Poem by Laurence Overmire

Broken Ladders

The Boss

Needs to feel important so
We stroke his ego
Smiling, laughing at the
Comedically-challenged jokes
Limping out of the drawn corners
Of his mouth
Taking his suggestions
Seriously when we have no
Intention of heeding their
Folly, foolish man who
Hasn't got a clue what life is like
In the trenches, making it work
Day by day, utterly expendable
To company Bottom Line
A piece of bread to stomach the
Indignity, life below the
Board, the game
Insidiously played, out of reach
Out of touch
Each move of check and mate
In obedient service of

The few.
