"The past is stronger than my will to forgive …"
— Shawn Colvin, "Shotgun Down The Avalanche", You Tube Music Video

Brother, you've been burning bridges with me
for twenty-three years now, and you call to wish
me 'Happy Birthday! ', my Caller ID reporting
'nombre desconocido' ('Unknown Caller') ?
Who the — do you think you are? If you call again,
I will let you know in no uncertain terms where you
and I stand in this world of uncertainty and constant change.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
My brother Michael Ryan, of Charlotte, NC, is a self-righteous hypocrite. He is a regular church-goer, , yet has refused to see me and my family for 23 years now even though we live only two hours away from one another by car.
