Burden Poem by Joanna Patino

Burden

They say everyone's unique
Different and original
But i'm not the only one with this hatred
I'm not the only one who thinks it's unconstitutional
In the night i weep
along with the others
Slavery makes me question why i bother
These shackles will not leave
This racism will never die
Take away this anguish and misery!
Let my soul fly!
Humiliating is this democracy
Laughing at my face
In this hell i wait silently
But for me there's no other place
Virtuous I am. White i am not.
Oppressed I am. Free i'll never be.
Or they'll hang me from a knot.
Please bring me justice!
Let me be FREE!
