By The Sea Poem by Anneke Brassinga

By The Sea

The wind weighs the words
and finds them too light
the wind weeps, sweeps the words
aside, out of sight

the storm petrel that gulps them up
will rise to the heights of the giant albatross
or merely wish to screech
as I do, dusted monkey chained to its perch.
