From a distance I look like I belong.
From the inside I bare a different expression.
My desires run deep for you.
And only you understand that part of me.

My exterior still looks dry.
And my thorns still seem sharp.
But you know I would never do you harm.
Only you understand that part of me.

My approach tends to be standoffish.
And I know I get distracted.
But you have been where I've been.
And only you understand that part of me.

I am a survivor…that is how God made me.
That is what I've become.
And I will always be your protector.
For only you understand that part of me.
