Can I Be Selfish? Poem by Josefina Martinez

Can I Be Selfish?

I walked alone on a seashore.
You suddenly grabbed my hands,
Saying you loved me to the core.
You said I'm your forevermore,
Nothing less and nothing more.

Then one day,
The skies turned grey.
I didn't know you were slowly fading away,
Moving away from me.

Kneeled for you not to go away,
I guess love wasn't enough to make you stay.
My heart was stolen,
Now your promises are broken.

Oceans roared in high waves,
Soliloquy upon the graves.
I know you're never gonna be mine,
Because you live in a spotlight and shine.

But it would be selfish of me to keep you,
Isn't it?
