Cancer & KıDs In Clyde, OhıO Poem by Luke Easter

Cancer & KıDs In Clyde, OhıO

It began in this area 1996 but officials say it’s still to soon,
Heck, U.S. Marines were subject in the 70’s, Camp Lejune,
Somewhere chemicals were dispatched & spilled somehow,
Two towns,12-mile circle off Lake Erie, is it serious now?

A 15-year span, “Cancer” 35 children have been diagnosed,
And yet, is this not the problem in America, coast to coast?
Especially where there’s water, not just a lot but a little bit,
Is industrial contamination rampant? Ask Erin Brockovich.

On this stormy May 25,2011, an unusually rainy-windy day,
13-years young, Haden Kistley, the sixth victim passed away,
The “Clyde Cancer Cluster” another innocent kid goes down,
Ages 4,6,11, Jeff Ranzenberger, Kole Keller & Alexa Brown.

Haden’s father lives in Freemont next door to death city Clyde,
“He loves John Deere Tractors & Sprint Car Races” dad cried,
Not worn torn Afghanistan or the desert sands of hostile Iraq,
He lived in Idaho with his mother but summers he came back.

What greater summer vacation than bonding, father and son,
And yet six kids in the Sandusky area, he’s not the only one,
So, begs the question where is the EPA, what is being done?
In the tender ages of life filled youth death has stolen the fun.

In 2007 the Ohio Health Department said this was top priority,
And in 2011? Well, let’s just say that status is now a minority,
There is something more important going on? Say it ain’t so!
4 Governor Kasich, “mo money, mo money” Ohio’s Casinos.
