Candle Flame Poem by medhini chandran

Candle Flame

Candle flame

*****

You may see me in various colours

In different shapes too;

Such as tall, round, flat and short

Gaze at me! And try to recall

My original colour and shape;

The adorable snow white and shape;

In tender and long cylinder form.

Give me a spark and I give you a flame

Soothing in colour, heat and light and in line.

To give you light I absorb part of heat,

Nevertheless, I am delighted in giving you joy and light.

In yellow, orange, green purple and blue.

People light me in churches before the deity;

In hotels, you enjoy dinner with me;

For birthday celebration, I am

Indispensable when you turn me into numbers.

I give you light, not very

Powerful, long or strong though;

I toil hard and melt my body and extinguish

Without causing you pain, and in the end, I vanish.
