Captain Gloom and Doom
He was wearing his black cape and purple tights, once again, as he slowly entered the room; and with the letters of C G & D stenciled boldly on his shirt he at first appeared to be a superhero, but then stated twas only a nickname that he'd once proclaimed as his own
He then cried aloud, for all to hear, that he'd always been sad and blue, and that he'd never even once smiled
Though when asked why he thought that he was so unique he just mumbled and then softly stated that it'd always been so, and that his life here on earth was a punishment, but for what, he wasn't quite sure
But if you have the time, then I'm sure he'll relate to you, all the unfair burdens he carries, of which he says are many
And one such calamity, or at least according to Mike, was that fate never wanted him happy, and which then accounts for his many misfortunes
His woes are many, and they're sad things too, but if you have a moment then he'll enlighten you with all the depression that's in him
Though at first glance it seems hard to believe, with the exception of one simple fact, Mike actually believes that his claims are proper and that he's a person who's truly doomed
How strange life is, Mike oft-time thinks, for out of the multitudes of souls on this good earth he alone was chosen to be miserable
But when asked why his thoughts are so, his answers can be vague and pointless
Perhaps I was too happy in another life, he says, and now I have penance to do
Though when he was told that he could pray for happiness his face suddenly became a blank, to what, pray tell, and to whom? Mike said, with a look of ignorance on his countenance
Is this a prank, are you pulling my leg? I said, because a statement like that sounded strange to me
Do you then actually, mean to say to me, that I don't' have to do this alone? Mike said
Of course you don't, if you really don't want to, I said, you need only to learn how to pray
And so by practice and repetition, the change in Mike's outlook has been amazing for not only has his old costume been rendered useless but he's now known as Happy Mike and he smiles throughout the day
