Captor Poem by Charlotte Bassett

Captor

You bring her home and you lock her in her cage.
You pet her and you feed her and you watch her grow.
Sweet, she flourishes and brightens with age,
But her true feelings? You’ll never know.

Of course, she smiles and laughs each day,
but she simply could not tell you how she felt.
You could not let her go for she would stray,
you hope your love will make her ice heart melt.

She doesn't want to hurt you but she will.
Her eyes changed, the warmth of her gaze grew cold.
Frankly, if words could cut and looks could kill
she would not let her captor grow old.
