Careless Poem by Belle Violet

Careless

There was a time that you told me
You'd never
abandon your kids.
Well, Moo,
what's
this?
There is a baby in my arms,
soft, and warm,
and he's restless.
He looks for you in the morning
that quiet time
with his daddy,
eating his snacks
while daddy
ate breakfast.
and at night,
or early daylight,
where's daddy
to give
his head-butt kisses?
Where's that gym bag
that smells like his dad,
to snuggle inside?
He knows something's wrong
so he won't
leave my side.
There is a soul in him
even though,
he's not human,
and I think it's what
makes me
the most angry;
you did
abandon
your baby.
Isn't it funny,
you are
just like
your mother?
To take one from me,
and the other,
discard?
You didn't understand when she left.
Didn't you wonder
what you did
to make her care less
about you?
Now, Baby Beast knows
how that feels, too.
He knows one parent is hurt,
the other is gone,
and his brother is nowhere
around.
Sounds like
how your teenage years
went down.
Maybe that's silly to you,
but,
I don't think so.
I know your heart connects to animals
because they're easier to love.
They don't require
as much.
They're less tough
with forgiveness.
And, you miss him.
And you did this.
You saw the puppy
with me,
on Friday.
Think he doesn't miss me,
even if you don't?
Think he doesn't want to give me kisses,
even if
you won't?
Sure, he loves you more
that, I made sure,
but, it was me that
was there for him
when you were gone.
And now?
Just an empty house,
all alone.

I've never known a man
to be so careless,
thoughtless
selfish.
Maybe Mom Mom is right
you've got too much
of your mother
inside.
