Cares Poem by Day Williams

Cares

Cares can bear down on men in public spots,
Overwhelming responsibilities
Never appear to go away, like clots
Varied in colors, odors, shades, degrees.

In Washington the mouths and tongues run wild:
Clever defenders of the Wrong say crimes,
The violations of the law, are mild:
"Command away this scandal of the times."

Lessons out of the history books teach tasks
Imbue our dreams with works of righteousness.
Naked the lust for power, which does please

The Fascists wearing anti-Fascist masks,
Ordering hits, more blood, more wickedness...
No, let there be new lights, new lands, new seas.
