Carrie Okie



we really wanted to go out tonight
have a couple-too-many drinks
maybe smoke that twice-a-year cigarette
then sing our asses off
loudly, and more than a little bit
off-key, of course
making fools of ourselves
for our own enjoyment
as well as for the amusement
of strangers
who also wanted to do the same for us
but after scanning the yellow pages
and the obligatory Google search
it would appear that
our little town
doesn't have
a bar like that
anywhere

if only the Japanese
had learned to spell
