Cement Feet Poem by Ridge Dillard

Cement Feet

Many memories in my mind
were forged by the doubt
felt in the moment
The refusal to own it
As I stood on the precipice
Of my Wildest desires
The fuel of my fire
The center of my recurring dream
The eye of this wretched storm
The roaring tempest which does me harm
Though the treasure before me
Sounds no alarm
Which would motivate me
To cast out my fear
Take action while I’m here
I’ll play it cool
Play the fool
And afterwords fantasize in seclusion
About my ultimate amusement
It would behoove me
To move these cement feet
But my bashful muscles burn easy
When what I want is in reach
The burden remains too great to bear
The will simply isn’t there
To move mountains and acquire
That which I desire
