Chained Poem by Katelyn Attard

Chained

My heart isn’t chained to my skeleton
So don’t think of me
As one of them
And my eyes don’t light up at just anything
So don’t think of me
As just another friend

I used to believe in magic
I used to think it tragic
When a heart went un-repaired
I was so unprepared

It’s a really big coincidence
How you crossed the line
Of my innocence
And how you never thought you’d meet me there
So unaware
When you stole me there

My soul isn’t sold at the Market Place
So don’t think of me
As just another taste
And I’m not another old coffee blend
So don’t think of me
As another trend

Way to be the one to see
Exactly what
I thought I couldn’t be
And I wonder if you saw me fly
Would you treat me like
All the other lies

The only thing I will ever fear
You might not guess
Is getting out of here
Because once I’m out there’s no return
I’ll cross my heart
And let the embers burn
