Chained By Rules



Iamb, trochee, left unstressed

Decameter, pentameter, words unblessed

By dactyl, verse, or anapest

Enjambment, caesura, prosody

Befoul what it means to me


My words, encumbered by their rhyme

And rhythm, meter, space, and time

Oh, Milton, Whitman, and Rumi

Tell Shakespeare what it means to be

Onomotopoeia kills my rhapsody
