Chameleon Poem by Siraj Abdulazeez Sabuke

Chameleon

I barely eat
'Can't even sleep
Restless became my feet
O I betrayed friendship!

I abused trust
After taking advantage
I then threw vile insult
This is sheer sacrilege!

It looms back to me
The dark evil I sow
I will avert it ere it be
My shade. But how?

'Stop! I've never...', so she said
I assured, 'Worry not, I'll be here forever
But within I knew I lied
And my deceit now became my fever.

I have soiled her dream
She now take only my goods
But my love went with the stream
That flows into the woods.

Though it may be late
But still, my love I do profess
Let's leave the past to fate
And in love, we should re-embrace.
