This poem embraces a BOTH/AND view of life events but in an unusual way. There are four stanzas that highlight various CHANCES that seem to threaten certain enduring values you have maintained since forever, but the last stanza reaffirms what seemed to be threatened. So in your creative imagination you fulfilled a need to T-A-K-E C-H-A-N-C-E-S, thus the core values were tested and proved enduring. I am aware of some poets who would not reach the intellectual core of the last stanza, their comparable poem would be a string of chances taken with no center that holds the SELF together; you maintained your center and still had the experiences of moving far out of its orbit. (My commentary is unfortunately abstract, but I know this will experience will be reflected on other poems by you - I will highlight those when I encounter them - I'm sure I WILL find them.)
