Chaos At Home Poem by Chinonso Iroegbu

Chaos At Home

Seek peace,
Peace is better;
Avoid violence,
Violence is perilous.

Words of nationalism
And patriotism
Become mere hocus-pocus
When the ideals
Of a state deteriorate.

Today in Nigeria,
There is structural violence,
There is terrorism,
There is injustice,
There is anarchy,
There is chaos,

Which are only the aftermath
That emanates from incompetence,
Corruption, negligence, indifference,
Insensitivity, failed constitution;
And above all,
Conservation of mediocrity
And complacency.

This march towards revolution
Is a revelation of a long unexpressed
Resentment, growing patiently
But obstinately.

These fatalities and mortality,
These massacre and
Unceremonious killings;
The blood of youths
Flowing on the roads,
Demanding for freedom and fairness
Demanding for radical reforms;
Reflect our misery, plight and anguish.

Let the world watch
As we die in the face of injustice.
