Chasing After Death Poem by Hyde

Chasing After Death

the snow falls, and i am here alone
on my own accord of course.
cause if i was with you, would you sit and watch
as i slashed blindly at my battered wrists?
while i mop up my own blood with old t-shirts
waiting for the dizziness to break.
i hope your answer is no
therefore i do this act alone.
the numbing succeeds to its duty
but i’m used to it by now, this empty feeling inside.
my soul, it shakes, but i feel no chill.
the tears they come, but i feel no pain.
what’s the point you ask?
why not just end it now?
you. it’s as easy as that.
your smile and your love.
the shimmer of your soul
and the friendship in your heart.
sure i could could break it off right here and now
it has been tried before.
but those pills only made me sick
and the blood made me grin.
that water only stung my nose
as i tried to breath it in.
i guess i’m meant to stay,
for i’ve greeted death, much more than once
only to be shrugged away.
