Checklist February 23 Poem by Ariel ~

Checklist February 23

1) Isn't darning thread … just "thread"?
2) I can't respond; working hours.
3) But conversation will continue in my head as if we were face to face; I will reply to you and there will be private jokes invented, discovered.
4) Refocus on the task ahead;
5) Have I taken care of every detail?
6) Will there be a guest?
7) I reneged on my promise to her. There is no confirmation.
8) I scramble to catch up
9) And find I am already there. Work done except
10) For removing one location. I call …
11) For everything I have touched today explodes into impossibilities,
12) Into darned pens and darned pins to be picked up by bleeding fingertips.
13) My drawer & hooks have been sabotaged. I need a new place to hang my six ears.
14) Without thinking I kill a remaining ant with a fingertip, mixing my blood, ant's blood - releasing a crushed strawberry scent.
15) Yesterday my desk and counters were a swarm
16) But I sent them packed with poison to the nest; little sleepers, no doubt greeted with joy upon their return to the hearth.
17) Yesterday I let them live, to carry my duplicitous feast.
18) The deed is done. No need for an Adam & Eve;
19) There's no Garden here. Only knowledge
20) And doubt. And recrimination. And picking at threads.
21) And time is counting down.
22) I cannot decide on what to eat but must leave anyways
23) And refocus … time is counting down. Other sessions move closer
24) So I go down the list. Open the website. Search the date, Open the settings. Change the date. Validate - oh, don't forget to validate.
25) Fridays move to Thursdays - or is it the other way around? Has Thursdays supplanted Fridays?
26) Oh, don't forget to validate
27) Or we shall have to mend again.
28) My folder contains staples & paperclips;
29) Staples for the past (I cannot effect it) .
30) Paper clips for the mutable.
31) I must leave - eat, run errands, turn on equipment, tap folders filled with staples & paper clips on the tables;
32) There must be a place to buy darned thread when it's only forty- two
33) Degrees.
