Cherished Bed Poem by Nikola Zilic

Cherished Bed

Keeping me awake is the dream of cherished bed
No people and no chat
And no history or fact
And no needs that beat
Beneath the skin
The collective human symphony
A savage mind
With minds at ease
I'm tired, yet they crawl my spine
Shiver, shanty, I’ll be fine
Their echoes bounce against my skull
The days they love are pale and dull
But courage hides when in the wave
Some dumb thumbs up, I’ll be ok
What can I change, outside my dream?
Don’t want to talk, yet nice to seem
Be grumpy, truthful, never smile
An honest man ignores your cry
Be statue of what life has made
or wreckage in the wave of men
be sorry for what one is not
yet hate that shallow gruesome thought
be questioning what all this means
and never find in truth the peace
let me just close the drapes for now
awake too long,
awake somehow
awake with dream of cherished bed
you can’t change now the silence said.
