Chess Poem by Haley Melton

Chess

I'm on a wheel that is always turning
Its like going through classes without ever learning.

A new place or time
it seems everyday I'm accused of committing a crime!

Because I don't follow like a sheep in the meadow
and let my true self turn into a shadow.

I won't follow the masses in a single file line
I won't pay for an imaginary fine!

I won't listen to lies when I know the truth
I won't go through life without looking for proof.

On these lies told by multimedia news
blindly point a finger at the ones that should loose!

Fate is a funny thing it gives us a sense of power
We use it against others they see US and cower!

In fear of the big guns we swore would protect them
the holy bullets we pray upon inject them.

They pierce the innocent bodies as they fall
we know its wrong but we still stand tall

As if its something to be proud of to hurt others simply for doe
the people who stand behind you do they know?

Of the blood we spilt and the hate we spread
Funny thing is most of us don't go to war for bread.

That goes on our families kitchen tables
We are also not the ones stuck with the labels.

Like poor, poverty stricken, and third world country
I wonder if they've ever known what its like to be free?

Free is another word that bothers me alot
When children know what its like to be shot!

In the streets of this country we say is so great
would we keep saying that if we knew their fate.

When children are forced to become mothers
and we have to kill people even our own brothers.

In the name of a God who likes to point a finger
Causing mental paint that tends to linger.

Then again we like to play god too
being able to kill thousands with just one boom.

The push of a button decides the fate for so many
hopefully the innocent people we killed were asleep and died easy!

I wish I knew what to say to convince you this is true
But lets face it the only one that decides that is you.

I want you to know even if you say you can't see it
just open your eyes and you will begin to believe it!

From the knowledge you gain through finding things out on your own
Maybe knowing the truth for yourself will change your tone!
