This poem discovers its theme in the 5th stanza with THE NONCHALANCE AND CARELESSNESS OF CHRIST. You're celebrating a free spirit - yourself - who free from guilt and worry is so light she can play with the abandon of a child. Your use of the spitting-metaphor is clearer to me now. It is just a metaphor and not an action. At least in America spitting is an aggressive, macho gesture. Men (and boys pretending to be men) do it just because it shocks people. Because of the intimidating aspect it is an extremely unkind gesture. Your use of it is innocent.
