Childhood Memories-Witness Poem by Mary Mc Creath

Childhood Memories-Witness

I was there to witness the end,
Of a war that was finally done,
To see the return of the soldiers,
But also the telegrams come.

To those who would never more see them,
Alive in this world they were brought
Lost in action, killed in battle,
Was the fate and the end of their lot.
