Chocolate Poem by Ragy Sandid

Chocolate

Dark
And at its core sugar
Added by milk
A breastfed drug

On sight
A perceived pleasure
A minute measure
Turns the world inside out

Believed benign
A moment made in our minds
Venomed in viscosity
Yet cures questions of curiosity

Expected angry
When the icing is white
Odd partners for the hungry
A sad mix in the fight

In the middle the teeth
Retain their origin
Sometimes the smile
Sometimes original sin

Out of the dark
Comes the unforgiven light
It was white
When it met darkest night

And out came the fairy
On a chess board
The moves on all the time
Check mate; no one scored

Ask the question
What is made of
As we chew the answer
We think: love?
